RUPERT, E. A., B. DEHGAN, and G. L. WEBSTER. (Dept. of Botany, Uiiiv. of Calif. Davis). Experimenital studies of relationships in the genus Jatropha. I. J. curcas x integerriwia. Bull. Torrey Bot. Club 97: 321-325. 1970. A vigorous interspecific hybrid has been obtained from cross-polliniations between two tropical woody species of Jatropha, J. curcas and J. integerrirna, which belong to differenit sections of the genus. Although the hybrid is effectively self-sterile, it can be backerossed with J. integerrira and the progeny show segregation for leaf characters. The high percentage of normal pollen (66%) and ease of backerossinig were uiiexpected sinee the parents are rather distantly related according to taxononiic stan-dards. Appareently morphological variation and geographical separation have Inot beeii accomiipanied by the formation of strong reproductive barriers.

Cytological characterization of an interspecific hybrid in Jatropha and its progeny reveals preferential uniparental chromosome transmission and interspecific translocation
Genetic variation in Jatropha curcas, a prospective biodiesel plant, is limited, and interspecific hybridization needed for its genetic improvement. Progeny from interspecific crosses between J. curcas and Jatropha integerrima can be used to improve agronomic characters and to increase oil content and yield. However, these hybrids have not been characterized cytologically. The present study was...
متن کاملCombinatorial Effects of Aqueous Root Extract of Jatropha Curcas and J. Gossypiifolia in Alloxan-Induced Diabetic Rats
Background: Combinatorial effects of aqueous root extract of Jatropha curcas (Jc) and J. gossypiifolia (Jg) in alloxan-induced diabetic rats was investigated in this research. Methods: Thirty-six wistar rats were randomized into six groups of six animals each. Group I (control) was not induced but received 0.5 ml of distilled water. Groups II, III, IV, V and VI were induced with diabetes mel...
متن کاملGenotoxic potential of leaf extracts of Jatropha gossypiifolia L.
Jatropha gossypiifolia L. (Euphorbiaceae) is widely used in popular medicine. However, further toxicological studies are necessary for its reliable use. The present study aimed to evaluate the cytotoxic, genotoxic, and mutagenic effects of ethanolic and aqueous leaf extracts of J. gossypiifolia, using the test system Allium cepa. In addition, the phytochemical profile of the extracts was also o...

These genotypes were grouped into five. Cluster I andIII had two genotypes, cluster II had three genotypes and cluster VI and V contributed as solitaryge...
متن کاملComparison of RAPD, ISSR, and DAMD Markers for Genetic Diversity Assessment between Accessions of Jatropha curcas L. and Its Related Species
Molecular characterization of 19 Jatropha accessions that included 15 accessions of J.curcas and 4 different species was carried out using 3 different markers systems. Highest polymorphism (96.67%) was recorded by RAPD followed by DAMD (91.02%) and ISSR (90%). Polymorphism Information Content (PIC) was higher for DAMD (0.873) and almost equal for RAPD (0.863) and ISSR (0.862) markers, whereas R...
